CORNED BEEF
Messrs. W. Weddel and Co.. Ltd.. writing undor date London, October 15, advise as follows:—There is no doubt that the advertising campaign of corned beef lias done Rood, Imt as there are largo stocks of finest. qnality_ North and ponth .American packs still in existence here, buyers nTo not anxious to go in for second grade moat liko Australian and New Zealand, and whilst-tho large American packers have been able to advanco their prices, Australian and New Zealand packs are, if anything, weaker. Last wcok and (both Now Zealand) packs were sold second-band at IRs. per dozen, whilst the Swift Beef Company have advanced their prices recently for best South American from Cos. to 90s. Wp do not, howover, believe that they will lw able to keep these prices up, as at the recent stocktaking in connection with the advertising cnm.pn.ign. Hie packers that joined the scheme held eighteen months' supply of Gs alone, and tliere. is no doubt t-hero wore then large quantities in fho luiiiclw of wholesalers and retnilcrs. Wo arc now comin" on to Iho winter season, ami this may liolp the sale of our Now Zealand pn'cks because they are very soft nnd difficult to cut up in ttio summer.
