Ottawa, December 1. The Canadian Government has passed an Order-in-Council increasing the amount of funds required by an individual immigrant to qualify for entrance to the Dominion from 50 to 250 ..dollars. This is done iii order to restrict the immiTation of mechanics, artisans, and labourers to Canada, nnd to alleviate tho condition of unemployment now prevailing in tho Dominion. The Order will become effective along the international border on December 15, and at ocean ports on January 1; but it does not affect tourists, commercial travellers, or returning Canadians. Immigrants with families must possess in addition to transportation u further sum of 125 dollars for every member of eighteen years or more, and fifty dollars for each'child fivo years old and under oigliteen.—Aus.N.Z.
