SWIMMING

NEW ZEALAND ASSOCIATION. Bv Teleeraph—Press Association. Christchurch, November 30. At the annual meeting of the New Zealand Swimming Association to-night the following officers were elected—President, Mr. W. E. D. .Bishop; deputypresident, Mr. C. Bryant; hon. secretary, Mr. 13. O'Neill; hon. treasurer, Mr.H. M'D. Vincent; reprejoiitatiro iu England, Mr. H. S. Williams. The secretary announced that Hawkes Bay and Canterbury had each applied for tho 1922 championship meeting. The matter was referred to a conference of centres. The secretary stated that the Australian Union's offer to send Miss Bleib-. trey (lady champion swimmer of America) and chaperon on a tour through New Zealand during January on a guarantee of £M had been accepted. The American (Hawaiian) swimmers would tour the North Island only iu March and April. The championship programme as arranged by tlio Dunedin Centre was approved. The Wnngamii Centre applied on behalf of the Hawera Club for a ruling as to the status of a professional motorcvelo racer for -swimming purposes. Tho president ruled that tho nxiu iu question was a professional. Regarding tho non-passing of tho 100 yards record, put up by Miss Walrond, the Wellington Centre explained that everything was in order excepting two signatures, one of which was Mr. Hill's. He had promised (o procure the other signature and post the application. Members of the Wellington Centre. Executive regretted very much that Miss Walrond should lose her record through such neglect.—The council decided to apply to Mr. Hill for an explanation. An application for reinstatement by (I. E. Belson, formerly custodian of tho Christchurch tepid baths, was granted.

RACING COMMISSION 4 .

A preliminary meeting of the Racing Commission appoin-M to make recommendations regarding the number and distribution of totalisator permits was held yesterday morning. Mr. F. Earl, K.C., presiding. The other members of the commission present were: Major S. Jiice and Messrs. W. H. -5. Moorhouse, J. H. Williams, and W. E. Bidwill. Press representatives were not admitted to the meeting,' but the secretary, nt tho conclusion, furnished the following statement for publication:— It was resolved that the proceedinge of the commission should not be open to the Press. A communication was received from Mr. L. M. Isitt, M.P., expressing the desire of lihat gentleman to be heard on the moral and economic aspects of matters within the scope of the commission's investigations. It was resolved that in each of the four principal centres of the Dominion two or three speakers should be heard on 'the general question of the issue of additional totalizator pernii-A. The clubs arc to bo communicated with at once, nnd tho commission will meet again on January 11, and proceed upon a.n itinerary which has now been practically settled.
