OLD BOYS' DAY

I BIG GATHERING AT WELLINGTON COLLEGE PAST AND PRESENT STUDENTS '■ AT PLAY. The affectionate regard in which Wellington College is held'by all thosu who havo been associated with it was tvniued yesterday when former atudents rallied to their Alma Mater on the occasion of "Old Boys' Day." Particular interest attached to this yoar's reunion on account of tho J ending retirement of the principal (Mr. . P. Firth), and there was «. very large attendance of old boys, including «. number, from various parts of the Dominion. Sports were the predominant featuro of the gathering, past and present students meeting in friendly rivalry in cricket matches, tennis, shooting, and athletic sports. In tho morning the committee of tho ■Wellington Oollece Old Boys' Association, <wd many old boys were tendered a reception by the present pupils, headed by Mr I'irth. Cheers wero given for the old boys, and brief response was ni-ndn by Mr. W. E. Hethune, president of tho association. Cheers for Mr. and Mrs. Firth and the present boys followed, after which the various competitions were got under way. At J!UO p.m. a huge group photograph was taken, and this was followed by luncheon, which was served in the college eymnnslum. The weather held fine till shortly after 4 o'clock, when rain set in and caused the abandonment of several orioket matches which were in progress. ...SHOOTING. . Considerable Interest was taken in the miniature rifle shooting match, which was won by tho present boys by 9 points. The conditions were two series of seven shots <it 25 yards, and the top score was made by Sutherland (Old Boys), who nut on 1* in the first shoot, and a possible In the second.
