As a consequence of hoarding and profiteering the Argentine Government has passed a Bill appropriating the whole of the sugar stocks within tlie Republic, including the coming harvest.
The death has occurred at Torquay, England, of Mrs. Edith Griffiths, a niece of George Eliot. She was the wido-v of the Rev. William Griffiths, formerly vicar of St;. Nicholas, Birmingham, and was seventy-six .years of age. Her father ,wns Isaac Evans, of Nuneaton, tho original of Tom TnlliTOT.
