SOLDIERS AND LAND TAX
Sir,—Could you pleaso tell me if a returned soldier has a right to demand a refund of land tax bnaed on valuation which was the price lie had to sell his farm before goinj to tho front—l am, oto. Gr.J.B. prho Commissioner of Taxes (Mr. D. G. Clark) was not quite certain of tho meaning of tho correspondent's question, but be stated that if tho correspondent would place his case beforo the Department <iny mi6tako in his usessment Would be rectified. The man was bound to pay tho tax on tho valuation appearing in the district, valuation roll. If he sold lis land at a price below lhat valuation, tho Department had no power to toko that faot into consideration!
