Archbishop Mannix has addressed numerous meetings in the provinces, his speeches traversing the familiar grounds of British misrule of Ireland, the plea for solf-determination, and the withdrawal of troops, but the London nowspapers rarely notice liim. His only London gathering was at the Bishop of Portsmouth's semi-private reception, and this was scantily reported in London. The bitterness of Archbishop Manuix's speeches indicate tho keenness of his disappointment at his treatment in England. . Tho Australian Press Agency learns that Mr. Lloyd George is agreeably surprised at the conciliiory nature of one of Archbishop Manuix's speeches, in which ho urged tho Government to make Ireland a friendly ally by conceding the right of self-government. Archbishop Mannix "has not yet decided when he will visit Rome, and has ■not made arrangements for his return to Australia. Father Vaughan, his secretary, spent several weeks in Ireland.— Aus.-N:Z.
