POWER SCHEMES
TENDERS WILL BE INVITED. The Minister of Public Works, answering a question put by.Mr. E. Newman (Mauawatu) duniy; the session, states that arrangements have beeu Jjiado for inviting tenders from enginceiUig firms for the completion of' hydro-electric schemes. Plans and specifications are now being prepared, and when tenders are called sufficient tinio will be allowed to enable not only New Zealiud firms but also firms qibroad to investigate and tender. Mr. Newman Jiad suggested that the development of hydro-electric power could be accelerated by entrusting one or more of the schemes approved by the Department to private firms.
