OBITUARY
MB. JAMES ROBIN. After a long illness, Mr. James Robin, of Macfarlane Street, died yesterday morning at the age of 91 years. The deceased, who was born in Stirling, Scotland, came, out! to Dunediu in the year 1861, and shortly after his arrival went into business as a eoachbuilder, conducting it with success for a great niany years. During his long residence in Dunedin Mr. Robin took a very active interest in local civic, Harbour Board, and educational affairs. He was at one time chairman of the Ovhgo Harbour Board, and on the inception of the first hospital and charitable aid board became a member, and subsequently was chairman of the body for nome years. He was for two years a member of the Dunedin City Council, and was_ for.over forty years members and chairman of the Dunedin Central School Committee. Fifty yoars ago, 'Mr. "Robin was Provincial Grand Master of the Hand-in-Hand Lodge, Manchester Unity of Oddfellows, and acted as. treasurer of that lodge up to the time' of his departure for "Wellington at) the end of 1907. He was a member of the old No. 2 Scottish Company of A r olunteers. Ho was made a Justice of the Peace in the middle '70's, and was chairman of the original Amenities Society, of Dunedin, formed for. planting and beautifying the city reserves and Anderson Bay Road. He is survived by a widow, a son (Major-Gen-ernl Sir Alfred Robin, K.C.M.G.), and a daugliter (Miss Robin). The funeral, which will be private, will leave his late residence for the Knrori Cemtery at 10 a.m.. to-day.
