CRICKET
ENGLAND V. NEW SOUTH WALES SMALL SCORE BY HOME TEAM 3y Telegraph-Preis Aiaoolatlon-OopyrlcM (Recv November 21, 5.5 p.m.) Sydney, November 20. The cricket match England v. New South Wales was continued to-day, under a clear blue sky, die ominous looking clouds of the previous night having disappeared, -with a slight shower, the effects of which were almost, umiotice-i able. Bardsley, facing Pender, resumed New South AVales's innings, and' poked tho third delivery to Woolley at first! slip. Tho catch was accepted. In the next over Woolley brilliantly held a snick from Kellewny, off Douglas, in the sama position. Taylor joined Gregory, who was inclined to open Iris shoulders. Both soon settled down to steady bnlting, temporarily stopping vhe rot, though run-getting was monotonously slow. When 11, Taylor stepped out to Douglas, who accepted a very hot one low down. Hendry snicked his first, ball into tho slips for a boundary, but allowed tho next to pass by. It broke in from the off and clipped his bails. Gregory and Oldfield seemed set ftir a useful partnership, but owing to the well -placed field runs were difficult to get, Gregory by ay bit of luck poked ono from Howell through the slips to the boundary, bringing a cheer. Ho placed the next ball to mid-on for three. When 40 he lifted' one from Fender, a straight hit, to Makepeace, who dropped an flasy oatch. Throwing caution to the winds, Gregory dispatched the next hall to the fence at long leg, but in endeavouring to pull the next to the on-boundary he was clean bowled. The remainder of the team offered little resistance. The wicket was in good condition ,and' tho failure of the batsmen was unaccountable, as tho bowling was not. deadly. * Douglas changed the attack frequently. The Englishmen in their second innings displayed more enterprise than Now South Wales had done, but the excellent fielding of the latter kept runs down. Hearne, going in when the score was seven, remained at the crease till 152 was reached. He played solidly for i/Uxv liours. and was splendidly caught at 81 by Gregory, who at first slip dived, and brought off a left-hand catch. Gregory also bowled strongly, commanding tho utmost respect. Douglns was sub--jeeted to good-natured banter by ilhe crowd for stone-walling. He eventually hit out at one from Mailey, nnd was caught in tho long-field. His 11 took 415 minutes to .score. Fender was tho mosi aggressive batsman seen to-day. He 6oon reached the thirties, disclosing a pretty Into cut. Scores:—
