INCREASED WAGES FOR' MINERS
REPORTED DEMAND FOR 25 PER GENT. RISE. It was reported on Saturday tliat the Miners' federation bad made a. demand upon the Mini? Owners' Association for a 25 per cent, increase in all rates of pay. The request was made that the iucroa** should be retrospective to March 1, when the present agreement, which; has not expired, camo into force. It is presumed that the demand has been made on account of the rise in the cost of living, THE OWNImFImPRESSION. (Bv Tclcirraoh-Prcss Association.) Christchurch, November. 20. In connection with the statement contained in a telegram horn Wellington that the Miners' Federation, has made a demand on the mine owners for a 25 per cent, increase in pay, Mr. William Recce, / chairman of the Mine Owners' Association, who arrived from Wellington this morning, stated that he had seen the secretary of the association yesterday, and no notice had been, received then of the new demand. The agreement was for one year, and the owners were under the impression that it would last for the year.
