STRATFORD-OHAHUKURA LINE
TEE STOPPAGE AT TAHOItA. By TelcErraph-fprtiso * ABoclation. Auckland, November 19. The Auckland Kailwnys League has received a letter from the chairman of tho Stratford League, statin? tlmt he'had not observed any mention in the Press of i the Auckland League ..protesting against the stoppage of work on tho Strat-ford-Ohahukiira line at Tnhnra. He desired that the league should make a strong protest against the proposed stoppage. "We approve of the work at the Ohura end," it was stated, "but, unless you -aro prepared to support us in preventing work being- stopped at Taliora, in my opinion you will undoubtedly bring about, a combination of. the whole Dominion outside Auckland against Auckland." The only linpo-i'or Auckland and Taranaki to get tho linn completed in reasonable time was for the work t'o progress steadily at both ends. Mr. Cbeal said that in reply to a deputation in September, the .Minister of Public Works stated that the Taranaki side q'f the railway, should not be left.out in the cold. It was decided that Mr. Cheal. should reply to the Stratford League, quoting extracts from tho verbatim ljeport of the deputation.
