SHIPPING INQUIRY
ALLEGATION OP DUMMY FASTENINGS. (Rec. November 18, .10.20 p.m.) Sydney, November IS. At, tho shipping inquiry ono of Kidman and Mayoh's employees, whose statement to the effect that he made dumps which could be used as dummies, was submitted yesterday, said the dumps would not necessarily be used as dummies, as they had a legitimate use. He did not intend to allege fraud. The .manager of the Cockatoo dock' gave evidence that hogging might be duo to other causes than dummy fastenings The secretary of the Wharf Carpenters' Union, who was employed in building the ships, denied that.dummies wero used, stating that if he had 6een such a thing.he would havo reported it to the union. ' The report of the officers appointed by officors to conduct tests whether bolts or dummios wero used was read. It stated that after examination they were satisfied that the work was faithfully carried out. The Commission hns adjourned to Melbourne.—Press A6sn.
