ENGLISH BISHOPS APPEAL FOR A TRUCE LABOUR PARTY MANIFESTO i ELECTION OF CONSTITUTIONAL ASSEMBLY DEMANDED (By Telegraph-Press Association-Copyright (Rec. November 18, 8 p.m.) London, November 17. Seventeen English Bishops have signed a resolution appealing to both sides in Ireland to arrange a truce so as to ennble negotiations for settlement to bo conducted. Tho Labour Party has issued a manifesto demanding the withdrawal of all armed iovces. from' Ireland, placing the responsibility for tho maintenance of order on the local authorities, and the smmcdlato elections of a Constituent \saombly to formula to whatever constitution the Irish people desire. A Labour Commission has been ' appointed to visit Ireland and investigate the reprisals.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. AMERICA WITNESSES FROM IRELAND. (Rec. November 18, 11.30 p.m.) Washington, November 18. A commission of soven from tho committee of a hundred investigating the Irish question will open the hearings to-morrow, with two Mayors from lie land, John Durham, of Balbriggan, and Dennis Morgan, of Thurles, as witnesses. The Commission intends sending a sub-committeo to Ireland .to make a first-hand investigation. The British Embassy in refusing ian invitation to tho representation, pointed out that it could not approve of tho purposes of tho inquiry, and the only result would be the spreading of propaganda. ■
The Irish Republican lenders in the United States, under the direction of De 'Vftlera, have completed a' countrywide organisation, the American' /-ssociation for the' Recognition' of the Irish Republic, which •aims to supplant thn Friends of Irish Freedom as the lending Irish organisation here—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. - POLICE SERGEANT MURDERED .< ESCAPING- PRISONERS SHOT. , (Eec. .November 18, 8 p.m.) London, November 17. Sergeant Uonoghue was shot dead in Cork.
