SOUTH AFRICAN VETERANS
' ■■ • — ♦ . WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION FORMED. ' .„ At a meeting held in the- Dominion Farmers' Institute Inst night, at which Major T. P. Halpin presided, it was unanimously decided to form a Wollington branch of the South African Veterans' Association. Major Halpin pointed out that a meeting of South African veterans had been held in Wellington recently, when a Dominion executive was constituted, and Mr. Simson, of Hastings, was appointed president, the speaker vice-president, and Mr. J. J. Clarke, of Wellington, secretary.. It was now desired that a)l N South African veterans residing in Wellington should form themselves into a local branch of the New Zealand Association. Mr. Clarke explained ,that membership of the association would not be confined solely to New Zealanders who went to South Africa, but would include nil veterans of that campaign, whether they formerly fought with the Regular, Irregular, or any part of His Majesty's Forces. ■ Those, present resolved themselves into a provisional committee to further the movement, and a sub-committee, consisting of Major Halpin, Messrs. Clarke, Houston, Wilson, and W. A. Edwards was 6et up to frame rules, etc., and to report to a further meeting. Mr. Edwards was appointed secretary pro tern, of- the Wellington 'branch of the association. The South African veterans residing,in Wellington are requested to put themselves in touch with the association without delay.
