THE TRAINING COLLEGE
MINISTER STILL SEEKS A PLAY* .GROUND. fast week the Minister of Education (Mr. Parr), at the request of Mr. J, P. Luke, M.P., inspected a section or land at Highbury, thue-auarters of a mile from the Training College, with tbo object of soeing if its purchase as a ploying ground for the Training College; unci formal School was desirable. Tho Minister's idea originally was that th» ground might be suitable for playing purposes now, and for a site of a school in the future, when, the population of the city extended in ths.t direction. Ho found, however, that the city water reserve occupies most of the neighbourhood on one side, while the other land in tho vicinity is not likely to be cut up for, some time to come. Considerable difficulty and expenses would be involved in levelling the section. Mr. Parr liM decided, after conferring with his officers, not to proceed with the proposal. Aii alternative suggestion that land for a playground should be acauirert In an-' other part of the city is now being considered, and the Minister stated yesterday that he was honc-ful that something would bo done' to giro the students and pupils of the Training College and formal School some elbow room.
