WATERSIDE CONFERENCE
QUESTION OP WAGES RAISED . AGAIN. Representatives, of tho waterside workers and of the shipping companies qnd employers of labour on tho wharves met in Wellington yesterday to. consider a .suggestion made by tho union.for an increase in wages. The watersiders have not made any specific demand, but have suggested that the rates of pay fixed by tho agreement made earlier in the year ought to be reviewed in view of tije increase in tho cost of living.' No definite decision has yet been renchod and the conference will meet again.
TJiei existing agreement, which embodied substantial increases in pay, took effect from February 5 last. The term of tlie agreement was defined as folloirs: —"Tins agreement 6hall come into force from the date on which the New Zealand Wafersi<lo Workers' Federation nofines TTTat it lias been accepted by the unions concerned, and shall remain in force "till December 31. 1921."
