"Mr Beddoe Canadian Trade Commissioner, brought under Mr. Stnssey's notice unofficial information that Canadian banks had notified their customers that New Zealand financial affairs were not in a verv cood condition, and asked for hank credits instead of shipping against documents. Sir. SVassey authorised the following- to bo cabled to the Canadian Government:—"The financial nftnirs of New Zealand were never in a sounder condition than at tho present time. Traito is good, money is plentiful, and the country is prosperous."
