Mr. Thomas Hamer, a director of tho Waihi Grand Junction Gold Company, accompanied by Mrs. Hamer, iis at present in Waihi. During his slav there Mr. ITaniM', who' before going to England was Under-Secretary for Mines, will inspect the company's property with' a view to reporting to the directors In London. Tho funeral of the late Sir David Htit'chins took place on Saturday—the cortege leaving Molcsworth Street for the Karori Cemetery at 2.30 p.m.—and was attended by representatives of Parliament, several State Departmouts, and a number of public and semi-public bodies, including the New Zealand' Forestry Leaguo and others' interested in forestry and forest industries. Tho Commissioner of State Forests. Sir Francis Bell, was represented by Mr. E. .Phillips Turner (Secretary of tho Forestry Department), Sir James Wilson (president of the Forestry League) was also" represented. The service at the gravrsidc was conducted by the Rev. W. J. Hands, and Mr. H. F. von Ilaast was chief mourner. Others who attended included Captain L. M'lntosh Ellis (Director of Forestry), Dr. Hay, Messra. T. K. Sidoy, M.P., W. H. Field, M.P., W. J. Butler (president of tho Sawmillers' Association), A. Seed, A. E. Rowden (secretary of the Board of Agriculture), B. C. Aston (Agricultural Department), E. C. Jack (secretary of tho Forestrv League), and A. Leigh. Hunt. The pall-bearers wero Captain Ellis and Messrs. Phillips Turner, W. H. Field, M.P.; and A. Seed.) Wreaths were seat by the Forestry League, the Board of Agriculture, the Dominion Farmers' Institute,' Sir James Wilson, and a number of private friends of the late Sir David Hutchins,
Miss Amy Evans and Mr. Eraser Gang*, the English vocalists, left for Christchurch on Saturday evening, and will sing there in oratorio fu-morrow night. They will be heard here again in the "Messiah" next month.
Mr. John Proii6e, of Wellington, is leaving for London by the Corintliic tomorrow. Mrs. Prouse. who has been residing with her son, Mr. George Prouse, in Milan, Italy, is now in London, whew she will bo. joined-by her husband.
The funeral of the late Colonel T. W. Porter, C.8., yestorday afternoon was a fully military one, and many-thousands of people lined .the main thoroughfares of the city to witness the long cortege pass. It was headed by tho band of the sth (Wellington) Regiment, and had the escort of the whole regiment, in full kit, with reversed arms, under tho command of Lieutenant-Colonol It. St. J. Beer?. The coffin was homo on a gun carriage-, drawn by four horses, with outriders, and was swathed in the Union Jack. Tho pall-bearers were Colonol E. .T. Collins, Colonel J. J. Esson. Major B. Davy, and Commander .*, R. Hislop, each of whom had been associated with the deceased officer in the past. Following tho gun carriage was a long proefssion of friends, including Brigadier-General Richardson, lvads of Government Departments, and a sprinkling of veterans who served with the colours in New' Zealand about tho same time as the deceased. The, firingparty at the graveside was supplied by the'sth Regiment, and the service was conducted by the Rev. Dr. Gibb, of St. John's Ch-urch.
The respect and esteem in which the late Mr. P. Trigga, Public Trustee, wis held was demonstrated on Saturday morning, when his remains were interned in the Karori Cemetery. Heads and chief officials of all the Government Departments were present, togther with, a large number of his old friends and acquaintances. The chief mourners were. Mr. \\. R, Morris (Public Service Commissioner), and Mr. W. Harrop (brother-in-law), and the pall-bearcrs were controllfW of divisions in the Public Trust Office and the Imperial Supplies Department. The Ministrv was represented by tho Hon. J.Jr. Coa'tes, Minister in charge of the Public Trust Office, tho Hon. D. H. Guthrie, and the Hon. W. Nosworthy. The Ven. Archdeacon Watson, of St. Peter's, officiated at tho graveside.
A Press Association message from Auckland states that Sir. E. K. Mulgan, sen., Inspector of Schools for tho Auckland district.- died yesterday.
