City Coun- : eil, which decided to adhere to "Hie policy it had laid down on the matter. At its meeting on September 1G the. council resolved that when payment lot a journey ia made- by concession ticket, . any extension of the journey shall bo paid for at the rates prescribed for cash fares, unless suitable concession tickets bo tendered for the balance of the jour--1 ney. Last niglit, Councillor C. 11. Chapman moved that this resolution be rescinded. ; Councillor T. Forsyth opposed the motion on the ground tlrat it involved a reduction in vercnue, .to talk of which at the present time was idle. What they wanted to do was to build up their tramway revenue. The motion was rejected on the voices. Councillor Chapman then moved that Hie resolution carried by tho.council on September 30, abolishing the use of concession tickets on the trams on Sundays, be rescinded. Councillor L. Jl'Keii7.ic said it was obvious that the tramways were losing money un Sundays. They were tryiug to run a big service on 'Sundays The Mayor: We are paying double time. Councillor ll'Kenzie: Exactly. We are paying double time lo run practically every car. I will guarantee that after 8 o'clock on Sunday nights most of the' cars aro .running empty. When we have to pay double time we can run a much more minimised service. We should cut down the Sunday night service. . ' The Mayor pointed out that Wellington was the only city in New Zealand that permitted the use of .concession tickets on Sundays. "We.are up against it," added Mr. Luke, "and t think the motion should be defeated." Without further discussion, the council divided on Mr. Chapman's motion, which, was thrown out by 11 votes to 4.
