POLICE PROCEEDINGS. Mr. J. S. Evans. S.M.. dealt with the polico caßoa at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Thomas-Newton, charted with the theft of a Gladstone bag, portmanteau, uiini brief bag • (value £10), tho property of Bome person unknown, was remanded to November 10. On a charge of drunkenness he was convicted and fined 10s.. in default 48 hours', imprisonment, For committing a breach of his prohibition order, Joseph Martin was fined 10s„ and for drunkenness ho was lined ss. George W. Jackson was fined 10s. for drunkenness, his second offence. William Hayden was fined Mb. for discharging offensive matter in the street contrary to the by-law Herbert Edward Turner and Martin M'Donough were chargcd with threatening behaviour in Lambton Quay whilo drunk. Turner was fined 55.. aiid M'Donougli 10s. for drunkcnuesß, with a fine of 20b. euch for using threatening behaviour. r i. plea of guilty was entered by William Scholes to a charge of forging the name nf W Brook-Taylor to a cheque for £8 on the Bank of New South Wales, and uttering the same to Harold Osborn. It was stated that Scholea forced tho cheque, and took, it to OBboru, a, hairdresser, on October 5, when he gave a. false name, and asked Osborn to cash tho cheque. The accused tndoracd tho cheque under liis false imuto. A day or two later Osborn saw thn accused, who then admitted that tho cheque had been forged. He offered to return the money, but wanted possession of tho chequo firßt. Accused was committed to tho supremo Court for sentence. On a second charge of forcing a cheque for £13 on the Bank of New South, Wales, and uttering same to Charles Wm. Botham, which offence whs alleged to havo been committed at Blenheim on November 18 last year, he was remanded to appear at Blenheim on November 10. \ , _ John Montague (for whom Mr. A. B Sievwrieht appeared) was charged with indecent assault on. a boy 10 years of nge on October 25, "n tlia hnirn Street Reserve. When the evidence for the prosecution had closed Mr. Sievwrlglit asked for an adjournment for a fortnight to enable hint to bring witnesses to prove an alibi. After some discussion an adjournment for a. woeli was granted, and bail was allowed,' in £200, and two sureties of £100 each, or one of £2DO. jlasil Gordon John Qwilliam pleaded guilty to having attempted to commit a serious sexual crime, and waß committed to tho Supreme Court for sentence.

In an undefended civil action, F. W. Donaldson v. J. Hart, judgment was entered for plaintiff by default for £32 156. sd„ and costs £4 7s. 6d.
