» —— The Aloook bllliard-dinor tournament was conoludod last night, when the semifinals and finals wore played. In the semi-finals Ivan Ingloy, of Groytown,.defeated Billman, Wellington, and Goodwin, Hiitt, defeated Holoroft, Wellington. Both games wore won. by comforfablo margins. Billman put up a. good fight until near the end of his game, when the Qreytown boy, playing at the top of his form, secured Bevoral very nice breaks, including a 49, and ft lead that Billman could not overtake. _ Goodwin, in his contest* with Holoroft, gave an excellent exhibition of billiards. Ho uses little force, and very rarely sends the balls running any distance. The final game .betweon Ingley and Goodwin was 615 points up, the latter player conceding a start of 195. The two players are totally different in stylo. IrgW using double strength frequently. Goodwin, on the other hand', uses very little strength, and depends upon delloacy and cueing Up to 400 points Goodwin undoubtedly had the best of the game, and reached 399 when Ingley was 398. The Grovtown player' then did wonderfully well, and made the fullest use of a good run of the balls, and secured over a hundred to his opponent's more dozen or so. With the balls running adversely, Goodwin had littlo opportunity. His leaves were of the mosb difficult order, and the- halls would noi run. Ingley, continuing strongly, was able to win by over 150 points. Best breaks: Ingley, 34, 25, 24, 23, 22; Goodwin, 42, 41, 41, 41, 39ff 22' 22. The large challenge cup makes its fourth visit to dhe Wairarapa, and the winner was also presented with 0. miniature silver cup. The second prize, n, cue and case, went to Mr. Goodwin, and the highest break—non-prize-winner -to Mr. W, N. Tucker. Messrs. Ingloy, senior, and Mr. Goodwin thanked Messrs AJcook pad Co. for the excellonll playing conditions accorded thera.
