London, October 31. Mr. J. H Thomas, speaking at Islington, made an earnosfc plea for acceptance of the coal settlement. He said there were reports from twn disiViets urging rejection. "I beliovo tho futuro ot democracy is involved in the matter. If the leaders arc to bo Strengthened in tho negotiations, fliey must have the full confidence of the men when, dealing with the other side. Thero is too much glib nso of the phrase 'Selling the men,', which is usually a phase of humbug. If tlio leaders are useless, let the men elect a new act."
