FRENCH PROTEST AGAINST BRITAIN'S ATTITUDE. . (Rec. October 31, 5.5 p.m.) Paris, October 31. The "Petit Parisien" 6tates that the French Note to the British Government protesting against the surrender of the right to confiscate the private property of Germans in the event of the German Government's default in.the performance bf the Treaty obligations, firmly but courteously contends that none of the Allies, acting individually, has power to revise or modify tho Peace Treaty or dissociate itself from the clauses affect, ing all tho Allies, except with common consent.—Aus.-N.Z. MR. ASOUITH ADVOCATES TRADE WITH GERMANY. (Rec. October 31, 5.5 p.m.) London, October 30. Mr. Asquith, speaking at Leicester, advocated the reopening of trade relations with Germany and world-wide interchange of commodities. Ho said it was the only way to keep the British forges, factories, and workshops in full employ-ment.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
STATEMENT BY GERMAN AMBASSADOR. (Rec. November 1; 6.35 a.m.) London, Ootober 31. Herr Sthamer (General. Ambassador), interviewed, said tho German Republic had come to stay.
