PLUMBEBS AND WELLINGTON TECHNICAL COLLEGE. :

The clause Mn the plumbers-' award recently published, which provides that if an apprentice, having served two years of his apprenticeship, 'V 1 ® x " n I nn '}' ,tion, conducted by the 'lochmcal School, in conjunction with plumbers organisations in the city,'shall receive 2s. 64. a week in addition to award rates, was referred to last evening by the director of the Technical' College (Mr. J"' 111 "■ Howell) at a meeting of-the Board of Governor*. The report which Mr. Howell presented states:— "It is gratifying to see tlmt both employers and employees in th's trade recognise Mia value of the work that is being done at the Technical College, anil are prepared' to show their recognition in this. way. . It would create increased interest if other unions were to embody similar clauses in awards. It is sate to say that,.there is no other, town in New Zealand where employers show so great an interest in apprentices f.s do those of the Wellington Muster PI"'! 1 ' 1 " ors' Union, and it is significant that there is also no town where plumbing classes are so successful. rho> Master Plumbers' Union is again offering ;o donate a gold medal to that student in the second, third, and fourth year-of training who has dono the most meritorious work,"
