KING'S THEATRE. The best work that Constant Talmndge has done ia said to be her performance in "A. Virtuous Vamp," with Conway Searle as the principal victim. Here is a girl who brings into a large offioe an aimosphero of chaos because, the susceptible males on the staff fall in love .with her, finally ending up with the big 'boss himself, who puts up a good fight, but. has to capitulate. The supporting programme includes comedy, scenic, and topicals. Bullarat's brilliant baritone, Mr. Verdi Mackenzie, will make his first appearance here in vocal gems. The incidental music by the Kinp'B Orchestra is a treat in itself. The box.plan is rapidly.filling at the Bristol. "THE END OF THE ROAD." The propaganda picture, "The End of the Road," is still drawing packed houses at the Empress Theatre, wtiere it is bein? scrcoijjd dnily to female audiences only. The photo, play is one which teaches young people what it is claimed their parents should teach them, but 6eldom do. The notion of the story movfcs through hwspital wards, wreckcd homes, haunts of so-culled gaiety and 'pleasure, and the horrors of the battlefields, to a happy close. The leading roles are entrusted to Richard Bennett, ■ the star of "Damaged Goods," and Claire Adams, a woman of remarkable. beauty and talent. "TILLY, OP BLOOMSBURY." The best test of the ouality of a, play is being able to see and enjoy it over and over again. Such is the caße irith "Tilly, of Bloomsbury," now being played Dt the Grand Opera House._ Perhaps it is that the humour is so virile and the range of characters so individual and . «i.-itiiict, that sustains tlie interest. For " example, the parts of Lady Mainwaring aim I'eruy W'elwyn are deeply etched in the first act; in the second they give place to Stillbottle and the Wejwyn group, and 111 tue last act Lucius Wei-. wyn assumes the "character leal," so to speak. Mr. Percy- Rhodes gives a very delightful .performance as the im-' pecunious, work-dudging, ex-fellow of Cambridge. His cavernous voice .and finely-poised dignity are delightful, especially where he breaks into the room with the news, "The British Museum wants me!" to which his harassed hardworked spouse replies that it was just the place for him. . Mrs. Brough and Mr.' Prank Freeman, as well as Miss Dorothy Manvillo (Tilly) give very sound performances. . . QUEEN'S THEATRE;. ■ At the Queen's Theatre to-night and for the following week, "The Last of the Duanes" will bo the principal film, with William Farnum as the "star." This production, _ with the famous . William Fox star/, is a pictnrisation of Zane Grey's novel of the same name with scenes laid in Texas in the days of . border outlawry. "HIAWATHA." Mr. James Simpson, of Auckland, has been engaged by.the Wellington Choral Union to sing the part of Hiawatha in Coleridge Taylor's cantata of that name, i The other soloists will be those famous 1 English artists, Miss Amy Evans and | Mr. Jjjraser Gange, who made so an • impression here last week. "Hiawatha" , ■will be performed on Wednesday everi--1 ing, November 10, and ion the following evening (Thursday) and Saturday afternoon NovAntKT 11 and 13, Miss Evans and Mr. Gange will give song recitals. C. Haddon Chambers's play, "The Saving Grace," has been played in Sydney by' Robert Couftneidge's "Jlan 'Froip Toronto'' Company. This company is. due to appear in Wellington about the end of the year.
