FARMERS' UNION PKOraCIAL EXECUTIVE. Prom-Our Special Correspondents. Palmerston North, October 23. A • well-attended meeting of. the Wellington Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was hold at Palmerston North to-day. Mr. W. J. Poison (president) occupied the chair. A letter was road from the Manawatu Sub-Provincial Executive, declining to endorse the Auckland remit in favour of members' subscriptions being collected through firms with whom they might bo doing busiisf-'ss. After considerable discussion it wis decided to refer the matter 'back to that body for further consideration.

It was reported Hint tlie cattle tick was spreading iu some,districts, and it was resolvyd to call the attention of tho irepartmont of Agriculture to the matter again, and to ascertain "ft they recommended spraying as a means of prevention.

The Wellington Sub-Provincial Executive forwarded the following motion for endorsement:—"That the Dominion Executive bo asked to give'effect to thjj resolution passed at- its conference to tlie effect that an exhibition be at once oivanised to demonstrate to the public the. difference between whnt tho farmer receives for his products and the cost to the consumers of the finished, article." Afbjr considerable discussion, it was decided to recommend tho Advisory Committee to arrange for the publication of articles bearing on this question, to show city consumers that the farmers weife not getting the big profits alleged; the brandies to be requested to send any special items of interest to the Dominion secretary for publication. The following remit from Wanganui was endorsed:—"Thht as the postage rate has been increased, the Government bo asked to conduct all rural deliveries of letters fre*j of subsidy by country residents." A motion to the effect that itlio Railway Department 'be urged to accept orders for trucks from private persons by telephone, was carried. Mr. K. W. Dalrymplo was appointed to represent the union at a conference of delegates to be held- to consider the question of afforestation of coastal lands.

The spread of goals' rue in the Halcombe district was mentioned, and it was decided to leave the question in thj; hands of the Feilding branch, to urge the County Council to have this weed placed on the first schedule of the Noxious Weeds Act. In regard to the spread of foxglove, which is particularly prevalent in the Wanganui and Wavevley districts, it was decided to request the Department of Agriculture to prohibit the salo of foxglove seed by nurserymen and others.

It was resolved thht in future thj> meetings of the executive should be htld at Marton.
