PRISONERS AND ESPERANTO
(To tho Editor.)
Sir,—Your excerpt from thp annual Prisons' Board report is undoubtedly of great interest to tboso whose duties and sympathies extend to the long service men referred to. Being the "enthusiastic, etc., Esperantist" mentioned I oxtend to the few who answered my appeal through your columns for books, the sincerest thanks and gratitude of tho prisoners referred to. I can assure them and you that the experiment is a wholesome ono, and is working incalculable good in the direction stated by Mr. Matthews. .
After twelve months of regular work in the cause I am convinced that the innovation is a pronounced success, and sincerely trust that tho achievements already obtained may be extended to many more who sorely need some such distraction. From a humanitarian, as well as from a political,'standpoint, the Controller-General should receive every encouragement in the premises. More books would bo welcome, accountancy and mechanics especially.—l am, etc.,
W. L. BDMANSON, JYB.E.A October 21, 1920.
