THE COAL SHORTAGE
MEWS OP FARMERS' EXECUTIVE.
The Wellington Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, _at its meeting at Pnliucrston North on Saturday, adopted the following resolution from the Auckland Provincial Executive: "That in view of the continued shortage of coal, inflicting, as it docs, very serious loss and personal hardships on all sections of tho community, this executive appeals to the Prime Minister to immediately introduce legislation which will enable men who may he willing to work in the mines or open coal fields, ei'her on wages or by co-operative effort on the part of tho men, to dc. so without tho necessity of serving the long apprenticeship at present required before the men are permitted to mine coal, as this executive believes- that no.such long training is necessary, provided adequate precautions are taken for protecting tho men against accident, .
