GOVERNMENT MAJORITY ASSURED. Melbourne, October 22 A Government majority is assured, but the results of the preferential voting an too iiulefinito to 'gauge the position of parties. Mr MacKinnon, AssistantMinister of Lands and ex-Director of Recruiting, was defeated by Mr. Parker (Labour), a returned soldier. Mr. Mackinnon had represented Prahran for 21 years. The "Sydney Daily Telegraph" forecasts the stato of the parties as: Ministerialists 33 Labour 21 Farmers 21 . Independent 1 Tho Local Option poll has dominated tho election figures so far, aud shows a heavy vote for Continuance. Of 67,000 votes counted, 4-1,000 are for Continuance, 20,000 for'No-License, aud 3000 for reduction—Press Assn. MINISTERIAL SEATS IN DOUBT. (Rec. October 23,. 1.25 a.m.) . Melbourne, October 22. Mr. Hutchinson, Minister of Education, is being hard pressed and looks like losing his seat to Mr. Allison, the Farmers' candidate. The fate of Messrs. Campbell (honorary Minister), and Pennington (Government Whip) is also in the balance, but the returns are still so incompleto that considerable changes are possible.
