TIE GAZA CAMPAIGN
HSCENSORED DISPATCHES PUBLISHED GENERAL MURRAY COMPLAINS OF INTERFERENCE (By Telegraph-Press Assoc!ation-Oopyrieht London, October 15. General Murray has at last obtained permission to puiblish the uneensored dispatches of the Gaza campaign He contends that the War Cabinet interfered improperly with) his military discretion. It pressed for an offensive while not supplying him with the necessary troops. The Army Council, in replying, states that its policy was not based on local considerations, but on the general course of the war—the failure of Nivelle's- offensive, the Allied policy in the Balkans, the position in Russia, the submarine campaign, and the necessity for a striking victory for the sake of the British home moral. "The Times," reviewing tho dispatches, agrees that the first battle of Gaza was very well planned, but the second was not so well planned, was badly executed, and there were seven thousand casualties. Like General Maude, General Allenby refused to do more till he had the forces necessary for success, and, like General Townshend, General Murray took a risk, and failed.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
