BOY SCOUT DEMONSTRATION

. ■ SUCCESSFUL ENTERTAINMENT. The demonstrations and entertainments given by the Boy Scouts of Wellington and suburbs last evening, and on the previous evening, have proved, a financial success."which will be .pleasant news tor the Scouts and their relatives and friends. The demonstrations last evening included blindfold knotting, for a Scout is taught to tie knots blindfold; bridge-building by th Kolburn Scouts, an effective piece of work well done; military physical drill, ambulance competition, semaphore signalling, swearing-in ceremony, and inspection of a troop. The principal feature of the evening, however, was .the crowning by Mrs. W. H. Scfton-Moorhou'se of the Scout King. Mac Darling, of the -Kelburn Troop, who scored 14,370 votes in tho competition. Tho Scout King was robed in Bcarlct, was preceded to the dais by trumpeters, and a flare of trumpets set the rival procession in motion.' The Scout King walked up' to the dais under a canopy of- New Zealand flags, and was crowned amid salvos of oheere from the Scouts. Tho Kcv. T. Feilden-Taylor, Provincial Commissioner for Scouts, announced during tho evening that a Boy Scout camp was to bo held at Otaki during the Christmas vacation. Tho cost would be £1 per Scout, and each Scout attending would bo expected to find 10s., tho other moietv being found by tho public. The Commissioner stated that he wanted £180 from tho people, and he was certain, to get it. The Boy Scout movement might have been looked upon in the past as a harmless affair, but sineo the influenza ciu demic 'he people had learned to value the. services of tho Boy Scouts-services ren dered ungrudgingly, t and without lee or reward.
