A SHARP LESSON FOR A YOUTH
■. * A youth named Edward W. King was •given a sharp losson in the Magistrate's Court yesterday by Mr. F-, K. Hunt, S.M., on his pleading guilty to a charge of assaulting a young girl. The facts as stated by Sub-Inspector Emerson were that while two girls, 14 and 10 yeara of ago, were walking up tho top end of Cuba Street on their way home, the defendant was behind them. Ho caught up to tho girls, bumped into them, and endeavoured to put his arm around one of the girls. This she resented and struck at him. and ho then tried to put his arm around her again. At the psychological moment a policeman came into view and King, scenting trouble, tried to run away, but the constable secured him. Mr. J. C. Peacock, who appeared for the youth, pointed out that King bore a good diameter nnd that his employer was prepared to testify to that. The Magistrate said lie intended to put a stop to such behaviour, and fined King ,£3, with the alternative of 14 days' imprisonment.
