By Tslegraph-Preea Aiiooiatlon. Tlmaru, October 14. In the Magistrate's Court to-day, John Taelien pleaded guilty to a charge of making h book! at the recent Geraldine rates. He was not a regular bookmaker, and acted quite openly. As this was the first prosecution under tlie Act of this session, wl'ch came into forco on August 28, Mr. -M'oslcy, S.M., while pointing out that, the penalty was a fine up to £500 or three years' imprisonment, fined accused J515, and costs.
