Average prices aro:—Beef, Is. 3Jd.j mutton, Is. 9d.; lamb, Is, 11 Jd., but best quality mutton and lamb is as much as Is. 10d., 2s. 2d., respectively. No change in pricii for imported meat. Demand is good for New Zealand mutton nnd lamb at maximum price; demand is slow for New Zealand beef. Butter.—Average price English is .£22 11s. i Irish, very small supply, ,£23 155., £24. Price Government butter increased as from October 4, *£16 16s. wholesale and 3s. 4d. retail. Chcrsc.—Demand is slow for English at 165., ,£9 Gs.; Canndian, on spot, sales slow at .£7 18s., .£8 2s. for white, i! 8 35., iCB Gs. coloured. Quotations, c.i.f., aro .£8 25.. ,£8 35.. 'but small business doing. Hemp.—Manila market qui»t and steady at last quotations. "J" grade, AugustOctober shipment, sold .£C9 10s, New Zealand market dull, no reported, sellers asking up to .£55 for highpoints, spot, .£53 fair; August-October shipment .<£s4, ,£sl, Tespectivhly. Honey.—Market quiet. _ Small private sales have been made this week of fine quality at 100s.j inferior grn<ki is not in demand. Nominal value is 80s., 90s. Wool sales have closed. Attendance throughout only modern to and competition hesitating. Only about ono lialf of catalogued quantities sold and tenancy has beo.n downwards.
