FROZEN MEAT TRADE
VESTEYS' RECENT PURCHASE. ■By Telegraph,—Bj>ooial Oorreipondent. , Wanganui, October i. lhe cabled announcement to-day that mteye, Ltd., has purobased from the Imperial Government its supplies of Australasian meat in store cause a flutter among meat myn, but one deeply interested in the trade considers the cablegrain too ambiguous. Ho says the first part of the cablegram refers to meat, but a later paragraph. suggests quarters of beef. If it is only beef that has been purchased the deal is not So colossal as it nppears to be. The farmers are now awaiting more definite information as to what stocks are really involved and on the matter of shipping tho meat. The prospects for the Wanganui district aito considered to be much brighter than they were at the closo of the season. When tho freezing works resume active operations therfc will still be a considerable quantity of commandeered meat in 6tore, though there will bo a good deal of space available. Inquiries aTC coming to hand from America for light classes of mutton, and a local expert considers thab the coming season will see a good demand for that class of meat, as well as for lamb.
