GERMAN NOTE SWINDLE
.NUMEROUS OFFICIALS CONCERNED (Eec. October i, 5.5 p.m.) London, October 3. > The "Daily Chronicle's" correspondent at Berlin states that an extraordinary swindle was spoilt by the Port Authority of Straulang and mrnemuende. Officials boarded a motor yacht which called at Warnemuende through an accident to lier machinery, * and discovered cases containing notes of the nominal value of 37,500,000 marks, printed by Colonel Bermont when leading the Germans against the Bolsheviks in the Baltic Provinces last year, but owing to the failure'of the expedition the issued marks were sent to the Baltic Provinces for ■ circulation. The chief' plotters, Donuor ; Baumann and his nephew, both have been arrested. Letters seized mention numerous high officials as accom-plices—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
