INDIAN ARMY

ESHER COMMITTEE'S REPORT. (Rec. Octobor 3, 5.5 p.m.) London, October 2. Some newspapers criticise the report of Lord Eahers commiittee oil tho Indian Army on the ground that it aims at putting: the Indian Army undoi' tho War Office. Tho report states tiiat tho centre of gravity; of probable military operations has shifted from tho West to the East, and that Britain must contemplate the possibility of our armies operating in tho Middle East,, based partly on India and partly on Homo. The report urges tho necessity of decentralisation, especially decreasing the detailed control by the India Office, and proposes that an Indian territorial force should be established.—Aus.-N.Z.
