OVERCROWDED TRAMCARS
CORONER'S REMARK AT INQUEST.
Tho inquest touching the death of Robert Filowood in the hospital on September 19. was concluded on Saturday be- | fore Mr. J. S. Evans, SM. The cause of death, according to the medical-evi-dence. was acute Bright s disease, and tho Coroner's findinr was in accordance with this. Rut ns FaowoDd fell off j. tramcar. on September 4 the Coroner thought it advisable to inquire into tho tramway regulations and overcrowdinc of tramcars. Mr. D. M Gulivray, tramway traffic manager, produced the reeister-sheet of the car, which showed th,it forty-four fares had been sold on tho .trip. It was a special football. car from Courtenay Place; but the register did not show the concession ticket fares.. The proportion of concession tickets would he about 25 per cent., which would make tho total fares about 51. This was the numbor allowed for in the tramway reflations prepared by the Government for consideration by the municipality. Tits existing regulations wore made m lsiu, and it was intended to issue the. new regulations some time ago, but owinft to the war this had not been done. The Coroner repeated his previous statement that no blamo was attachable to the motorman or conductor of tho car, but taid that in the interests of the publio the question of overloading o{ tramcar# should be considered. He urged 0 that immediate steps should be taken to have ibo new tramway trafSo regulations gazetted.
