FORTNIGHTLY MEETING,

The Wellington City Council met on Thursday. There were present: The Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke, C.M.G., M.P.), Conncillors W. J. Thompson, J. Burns, B. G. H, Burn, C. J. ii. Norwood, W. H. Bennett, W. J. Gaudiu, T. Forsyte M. F. Luckie, J. M. Dale, P. Frascr, M.P., C. H. Chapman, J. Hutchison, alu l R. A, Wright, M.P. • It was decided that the undermentioned stands be cancelled as public taxistands: Lauibton Quay (Printing Office); Lambtou Quay (Government Buildings); Ballance Street: Lambton Quay (Publio Trust); . Stout Street: Johnston Street; Brandon Street; Feafherstoii. Street; Customhouse Quay; Lower Cuba Street; Ghuznee Street; Taranaki Street. The council also resolved that private taxistiiiuls be' created at the under-mcntion-ed streets: Lambton Quay (Printing Office); 10 cars; Lambton Quay (Government Buildings), I' 2; Ballance Street, 8; Lambton Quay (Public Trust and Stout Street). 1G; Johnston Street, 16; Brandon Street, l(i; Featherston Street, 16; Customhouse Quay aud ..Hunter Street East, Ifi; Lower Cuba Street, 14; Ghustnee Street, 7; Taranaki Street, 6; Clyde Quay, 12. On the recommendation of the Reserves Committee it was decided _ that an ' agreement . with the Wellington Cricket Association with reference to the use of the Basin Eescrve be entered into for' a further period of three years, the rental to be fixed at JS2OO per annum, provision to be made in the agreement for: (a)-The Cricket Association to pay to tho council one-half of any- surplus of their income over expenditure in any year-; the : amount so paid and tho rental (.£200) not to. exceed .£3OO per annum; (b) the percentage.of gate takings t:o be collected by the council to Ae increased from 10 per cent, to 15 por eent. ■ ■ ! In .'order to provide for the_ more economical working of the Basin Reserve, it was decided that the reserve should bo placed under the! control of the Director of and Reserves.
