SOUTHERN PRODUCE MARKETS
By Telcgraph-Presa Association Christchurch, October 1. There is no alteration in vnluea in grain and general produce lines, nnd business passing is on the smallest possible scale. This applies most particularly oats. There has been scmo inquiry for chuff from the North Island. This business has made no difference in values to the farmers. The Wanaka has left southern ports, direct for Auckland: with a mixed cargo of cats, chaff, and potatoes. These shipments will relieve any immediate shortage that might otherwise bo precipitated by a wateraiders' strike. . ■ ( White clover continues /to be in request, but general grass seed lines; particularly cocksfoot, are devoid of animation. Merchants aro well stocked with cocksfoot.
The potato position is not invested with much' interest as far as merchants nro 'concerned.
The rains in tho early part of the week hnvo washed out a (rood deal of the cereal crgps. Wheat-sowing had just taken place, bufi in the ense of oats the bulk of the areas so affected will be re-sown.
