Au excollcnt programme was presented at the Wellington competitions last eveniug, there being tt large and appreciative audience. Uf tlie elocutionary items. Miss Agnes Smith's rendering the well* known Dickcns'B character, "Nauey, was particularly line, the judge (Mr. blarney Warwick) remarking oil Hie splendid elocutionary and dramatic powers possessed by Mias Smith, who had not been ci all discouraged by failure to gain a place hitherto. It was unfortunate that a section of the audience creatcd a disturbance during thw section, with the result that the curtain was rung down by order of the judgo during Hiss Smith a performance, and she had to completo her portrayal anew. Mr. Warwick also conipii--mented her on her rendering of "Rizpah, remarking that she infused 100 much emotion into the pasU otherwise she would have obtained the nrst place. There was an abundance of musical Uepis during the evening's entertainment, and a Heel o Tulloch, danced by four sturdy ems in costume, proved a pretty interlude. A character story without wordß, performed by Miss Gwen Shepherd and Mr. BuckniP.il, was clever, tho audience Bliowing genuino amusement • RESULTS.
