Ferguson the monthly meeting of the Wellington War Eelicl Association yesterday, afternoon.The finance statement showed tfie expenditure for August to h»vo been £M 9 Mi.. td„ and the inoome £437 la. lid. .The total funds as at August 31. are m follow:—lnvestments,' £56,637 18s. Sd.; current account, £2744 10s. 7d.; petty cash,- £20j ' total, £59,402 9s. 4d. , , - The Finance Committee reported that eight applications for loans on second, mortgage to purchase residential property were granted, and three claims for other purposes. In each of these cases. the - applicant was suffering pecuniary loss as the result of his war. disability. Pour applications for assistance to purchase houses and one for farm' implements were declined, as these men had not in any way incurred loss on account of their military service. The Applications Committee having reported that a very large number of claims' were being' received for advances of £100 to £250 for the, purchase of- house end farm property,. the Finance, Committee "recommended.that, as a general rule, no such applications could be entertained when' the claim presented no exceptional circumstances, or if the applicant was not a partially or totally disabled soldier who was suffering economic loss as the result of his physical impairment. The report .'was adopted.
The Applications Committee reported-.-7 "Since the last meeting of the Executive Committee on August 31, 1920, your Applications Committee has met on four occasions and has dealt with 240 applications. During the period September 1 to 30, 1920, the total number of claims received was SSI, comprising 145 new applications and 95 renewals and reconsiderations i 51 claims for which we are responsible are still under action, and the remaining 60 have been Bent to other societies for decision and >übsequent action by. us. The start have completed the supplementary lists of permanent pensions, and copies have been forwarded to the. various war relief and patriotio societies for their information. The register of permanently or totally disabled soldiers who are the responsibility of the association, has been completed at date, but further' additions to the list will be made from time to time. The number concerned bow totals 450, of whom \ 230 have applied either through other societies or personally for assistance from your committee. Your committee has communicated with the remaining 213, requesting them to call at your office, or to write to us, whether they are in need of assistance or not, and in this respeot it is gratifying to,; note that we have received no fewer than 98 replies to our letters. Many of the men expressed their thanks for the notification, and in one instance your committee .received a donation to ita funds." The report wag adopted.
