RUGBY RULES
DANGER OF A BREAKAWAY. (Rec. September 29,. 5.5 p.m.) London, September 28. Although the English Rugby Union is obdurate against the Australasian ■ proposals, officials, and' sporting writers express considerable anxiety tlat a breakaway shall be avoided. ' Mr. Marriott, secretary of tho English Union, declared that tho union, had never been induced to assent to a mere speeding up in name in an endeavour to conciliate the public, thus handing over Rugby to a few specialists. Mr. Wray, the New Zealand representative, ha? cabled, urg' ing that there should lie no breakaway till the full report arrives.—Aus.-N.13. Cable Assn.
