Reserved judgment was also given hy Mr J, S. Evans, 8.M., in the case brought by eight employees (Mr. P. J. O'Regan) against Duitin's, Ltd. (Mr. H. F. O'Leary), a claim for wages. There was a principle involved—whether -.corkers at bulls and other evening functions were to be paid by the day or by the hour, The eight employees had l.een engaged to wait at the 'Varsity Ball, held in the Town Hall on May 14, and for their services received 10s. each. They claimed that they were entitled to payment for ten hours at the rate of 2s. 6d. per hour, or 255. The Magistrate decided that the workers had been engaged for the function and not by the day, and that payment should lis made on the basis of the hours asked Judgment was given for the employees for the balasce pf the amount ciamicd, 15s. each.
