$ WELLINGTON MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE. The Management Commits of the Wellington Rugby Union met last night. Mr. W. F. Ilornig presided, and thero were present Messrs. E. Perry, J. T. M. Piki, W. W. Cook, H, Buck, G. Jackson, J. Prendevill.e, J. N. Millard, and A. J. Griffiths. It was reported that a special meeting of delegates will be held on October 11, at 7.30 p.m., at the Central Chamber of Commerce, for the purpose of discussing tho proposed amendments to tho laws of the game. The Wellington Football Association wrote, thanking the union for having granted the association the use of Athletic Park on Monday for tliij playing of an Association match. Tho association stated that the gross proceeds from the match were only a little over -£36, and they forwarded a cheque for <£3 12s. 9d., being the Rugby Union's of the "gate." Mr. Perry moved that the cheque be handed back to the association as a present. Mr. Cook: There is no precedent for that. It would be a very bad precedent to do l anything of the kind. Mr. Perry: They are "sports," the samo as wo are. Why not help them? Mr. Ilornig: We want all the money we can get, Jlr. Perry. Mr. Prendeville: They have nothing to complain of. Mr.. Millard said the association was granted a reduced chaTgb for the use of the park. Mr. Perry: When in Sydney I was told .that the AVellington Rugby Union were, not "sports" because they did not invite the English Leagua footballers to a match in Wellington. (Laughter.) • Members: We are out to fight tlis league. Mr. Hornig: I am going to fight that crowd all I know how. Mr. Perry: Well, you want to get the public with you. ■' Mr. Hornig: We have got the public with us all right. Mr. Perry's motion lapsed for want of a seconder. The committee, consisting of Messrs. Millard, Cook, and Jnckson, set up to consider complaints regarding alleged rough play in the St. .Tames-Pbtoue fourth-class match, reported (.hat although the gamo was undoubtedly a hard one, in view of the referee's report it had no recommendation to mate. The report of the committee was adopted, and the fourth-class championship was awarded to Petone. SATURDAY'S CHALLENGE MATCH. When speaking at the civic reception at the' Town Hall on Monday night, Viscount Jellicmj indicated his desire to bo associated'witbl the sports of the people of the Dominion, and the Wellington llupby Union has lost 110 time in meeting His Excellency's wishes- The union lias invited His Excellency and Lady Jellicoo to be present at the. match to be played at the Athletic Park 011 Saturday between Petone (winners of the senior championship) and Poneke (runners-up). the match is a special challenge by Ppneke and the proceeds will be in aid of tho gymnasium funds of senior clubs in Wellington and the injured players fund..
