WELLINGTON GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL
GRANT FOR NEW BUILDING. The need for additional aeeommodation for tho Wellington Girls' High School was stressed again in the Ilouse of Represontatives yesterday by Dr. A. K. Nl>wnwtt.(Wellington Mast). The work, said Dr. Newman, ought to have immediate attention. The Minister of Education (Mr. Parr) replied that he appreciated the urgencv of the work. About 300 girls, out of 650 attending tho school, were occupying overflow buildings. Tho High School Board had proposed tho provision of additional accommodation at an r-cpondi-turo of ,€72,000. Tho GoTyrnmont was not prepared to faco this vory heavy expenditure. lie had conferred with representatives of th/ 3 board, and certain suggestions he (had made ha<l Iwen a/lopted; These suggestions would reduco t.lie immediate expenditure to abo-ut .£40,000, loaving tho rest of the scheme to 1)6 completed later. Tho board had modified its plans accordingly. Tho now plana hadteen submitted to Cabinet, and a, grant of .£SOOO had been pado on account of tho proposed expenditure of JE-10,000. Mr. Pflrr added that tho amended phns would provido sirfeen class rooms, with full equipment, and would accommodato about 400 girls.
