Hutt Athletic Club Ball

i °4 the most Sllcces sful balls held in the Hutt valley for mauv seasons was that of the Ilutt Amateur Athletic Club, which took place in the local Town Hall last evening. The committee had spared neither expense nor effort in regard to the arrangements, and their efforts were crowned ,with success. The decorations, though simple in design, were very effective. They took the form of long, wide streamers of black and white-the club's colours—interwoven with which at intervals were strings of lycopodium, suspended from the ceiliug maypole style. The balustrades of the balcony were decorated with ferns and clematis. On the supper tables were arranged vases of glorious narcissi. The committee comprised Messrs. Bond, Troseder, Matthews, Burt, 'La Roache, Stevens, and M'Lean. The chaperons were: Mesdames Barry, Itishworth, Teagle, Eddie, and Tresederi and Mr. Macaskill was responsible for the secretarial 1 work. Cowley's Orchestra supplied excellent music. Petone Fire Brigade Dance. The annual social and dance in consection with tho Petouo Fire Brigade ■was held last evening. The room had been prettily decorated with bunting and lycopodium, and f>;om the ceiling was suspended a set of hydrants and branches, draped with ferns. Along the sides of the walls at intervals were arranged firemen's helmets and axes in neat designs. During the social part of the evening, medals, bars, and trophies were awarded ns follow:—Gold star (25 years' service), Fireman A, Hose; two-year service bars, Deputy-Superintendent Whitcher, Firemen Rose, May, Selbery, Williams, llichardson, H. Shardlow, and Selwood; Phare Cup and medal, Fireman A. Rose; runnore up, Firemen Brown and Woodward, equal; three men flat event, Superintendent Gaynor and Firemen Hose «nu H. G. Shardlow, 1; Firemen Silbery, Hichardson, and Selwood, 2. An acceptable programme was submitted, among those contributing to it boing tho following:—Songs, Mr. P. Robb, Mies M. Gaynor, Mr. Isaacs, Miss Bradley, Misses Reaking (2), Mr. J. Hepworth; duets, Mr. and Mrs. Eramott," Miss M'. Gavnor and Miss Keating; haka, Fireman A. Rose; concertina solo, Mr, Borrows, sen. The danoe muao was supplied bv Mrs, Pollook, and supper was provided lw the Ladies' Committee.
