PETONE BOROUGH COUNCIL

9 .The Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) presided over last night's meeting of tnePetone Borough. Council. The secretary of the Petono Municipal Band advised that the trustees appointed to enter into the agreement with regard to the proposed hand-room were Messrs. J. W. M'Ewan and C. P. Brockelbank. Two communications were received from the distinct health officer setting forth repairs to he effected at properties in Victoria and Sydney Streets.—lt was resolved that the owners' be given twentyeight days' notice in which to have the repairs effected. ' The Wellington Drain Pipe Co. advised an advance in prices by approximately 10 per cent, net.' Tho'town clerk, Waihi, forwarded for approval the following resolution passed by his . council':—"That this council views with grave apprehension the increasing cost of living, and draws tho attention of the Government thereto, asking it to take immediate actiion, with a view of reduoing the high prices now prevailing, and that the co-operation of all other boroughs be invited in the matter," On the motion of Councillor Anderson, seconded by Councillor Churohoneo, ilt was decided to endorse tho resolution of the Waihi Counel. Tho health inspector, Wellington, notified a case of cerebrospinal meningitis and one of varicelli. i
