THE NATIONAL MEMORIAL
ANOTHER SITE SUGGESTED. When proceeding out to the Corinthic in the Janie Seddon yesterday morning, the Prime Minister (Mr; Massey), indicated Point Jerningham (near the Roseneath School) as a likely site for the proposed national memorial. Whilst on the subject, Hat broad 'saddle ridge., which extends from Mount Victoria to the top of Hawker Street was pointed out to the Primo Minister as the more dominating site. Viewed from the harbour or from Wellington South, tho flattened portion'of the ridge is clearly outlined agaii.st the sky, whilst from Wellington North any monument erected on the spot would have the green hacking of the mountain-side. Mr. Massey was rather impressed with, the suggested *ire, <md promised to _ have a closer look at it._ One objection to the Point Jemiiigham'site is that the monument,' although it- is to be 100 ft. hign. would only be visible from the waterfront and the hoights, whereas tho Town Belt site is visible from all parte of the city, and from the Hutt Valley to Berhampore.
